(Last Update February 1st, 2017)
When it comes to potty training toddlers I’m a big advocate of the 3 day potty training method.
But the thing is, most parents don’t understand that the 3 days are just the first step of potty training your child, which is getting rid of diapers once and for all and helping your child learn how to use the potty (Potty Chair VS Potty Seat) by himself.
There will still be accidents.
The best way to avoid them is to use potty training pants.
Cloth. Cotton. Waterproof training pants.
Potty training pants are not diapers and they’re not pull-ups, but they’re very absorbant and leakproof. Your child can easily pull them up or down by himself.
If you want the closest thing to real underwear but with fewer potty training accidents, training pants are the best option.
Some parents use plastic training pants but I don’t recommend them (they sometimes squeak and they’ve not very comfortable). I’ve used cloth potty training pants with both my kids and they worked very well at containing any spills.
So without further delay let’s get into it.
Here are the best cloth cotton waterproof potty training pants you can use during and after the initial 3 days of potty training.
Top 5 Cloth Waterproof Training Pants for Toddlers
Super Undies Bedwetting Nighttime Underwear
The pants have a nice, tight fit with fleece around the waist and legs which stops any wetness from leaking out.
Despite the tight fit, they’re very comfortable for your child and they don’t leave any red marks on his skin.
The Super Undies are reusable and can be washed with your regular loads.
They have 4 layers of built in microfiber absorbency which can hold up to 450ml (or 15 ounces). Additional absorbency pads can be inserted.
Cotton Nighttime Undies
The Cotton Nighttime Undies feature a high absorbency 100% cotton inner layer, a PUL fabric waterproof outer layer.
Next to the built in absorbency, the pants have 2 separate cotton soaker pads inside them.
The Nighttime Undies have a tight fit which combined with the soft fleece edges around the legs and waist stops any leaks from getting out.
Mother Ease Cloth Diapers
The Mother Ease training pants are very absorbant and leak proof.
The inner layer is made out of knit cotton terry which is super absorbant.
The 3 layer cotton soaker is only partially attached at the waist. This makes the pants easier to wash and also allows them to dry faster.
Thanks to the elastic edges, the have a comfortable fit and your child can pull them up or down easily by himself. They also stop any wetness from leaking out.
The Mother Ease cloth diapers come in 3 different sizes: X-small, Small and Medium.
Charlie Banana Extraordinary Training Pants
The Charlie Banana training pants come in 26 different colors and patterns and 5 sizes.
They have a waterproof outer layer and a soft, organic cotton interior.
The cotton layer is hypoallergenic and stain free.
They feel and look like real underwear to your toddler and they’re great at catching accidents, even during nighttime.
Imagine Baby Products Training Pants
And the last item on our list, the Imagine Baby Products training pants are lined with soft cotton flannel which let’s your toddler feel wet.
These training pants are good at absorbing small accidents but I don’t recommend you use them for nighttime potty training or with children who are heavy bedwetters.
They’re very light and they look and feel like real underwear.
At one point I had a pair of each of the 5 potty training pants in the above list. I bought them all because I really wanted to know which ones are the best for my 2 sons.
So these are my suggestions.
But I’m also really interested in what you recommend. Leave a comment below with your favorite brand of potty training pants.
